1. A skittish and obnoxious passenger, he does not like to sit next to the driver.
2. As a skittish and obnoxious passenger, he does not like to sit next to the driver.
這兩句有沒有不同?
兩句的意思基本上一樣,都是說乘客是一個既緊張又討厭的人,而且不喜歡坐在司機旁邊的座位。如果沒有 as 的話,只是說出這位乘客的個性和行為。多加了 as,就把乘客的個性和行為的關系加強了,也就是說,他不喜歡坐在司機旁邊的原因,是因為他是一個既緊張又令人生厭的人。
我們看另外一個例子:
A newcomer to the school, he is very popular with the teachers.
As a newcomer to the school, he is very popular with the teachers.
按照上面的理解,第二句把新生的身分和老師們都喜歡他這個事實關聯(lián)起來:老師喜歡他是因為他是新生,說不定他待久了,老師的看法就會有所不同。這個含義在第一句并不存在。
