在日常生活中，有的時(shí)候我們會(huì)覺(jué)得自己好像站在十字路口，不知道往哪兒走才好。如果我們做出錯(cuò)誤的決定，就可能會(huì)陷于困境，in the doghouse。Doghouse就是狗睡覺(jué)的房子，也就是狗窩。In the doghouse作為俗語(yǔ)，它的意思就是你使某人很生氣，以致你不得不在屋子外面跟自己家里的狗睡在一起，意思就是惹人生氣令自己出境尷尬。

For example:

I've been in the doghouse with my mom and dad ever since they saw my grades from last semester. I admit that I failed math and barely passed English, but these are tough courses!

在美國(guó)人當(dāng)中，離了婚再結(jié)婚的人也不少。有的時(shí)候，雙方跟前夫或前妻都有孩子，結(jié)了婚兩家合在一起孩子就更多了。這就會(huì)產(chǎn)生很多問(wèn)題，不僅孩子之間會(huì)發(fā)生矛盾，而且還會(huì)影響夫婦之間的感情。下面就是一個(gè)丈夫在說(shuō)他生活中的麻煩。

My wife and I each has a son from our first marriages. Somehow, her son always likes to disturb my son when he's doing his homework. The other day I tried to discipline him and that got me in the doghouse with my wife.

我跟我太太之前的婚姻都有一個(gè)兒子。不知怎么回事，每當(dāng)我兒子做功課的時(shí)候，她的兒子總是喜歡搗亂。那天，我想給他定點(diǎn)規(guī)矩，結(jié)果卻使我太太對(duì)我很生氣。

表示處境困難的習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)還有between a rock and a hard place。Rock是石頭，hard place是堅(jiān)硬的地方，石頭本來(lái)就是硬的，如果夾在石頭和另一種很堅(jiān)硬的東西中間，相信處境一定很艱難。

For example:

Lisa finds herself between a rock and a hard place. If she decides to stay with her husband, she'll be beaten from time to time or even killed one day. If she is determined to divorce him, he probably will kill her before she hires a lawyer.

利薩發(fā)現(xiàn)自己真是進(jìn)退兩難。要是她決定和她丈夫繼續(xù)過(guò)下去，她會(huì)不斷地挨打，或者甚至哪天被打死。要是她決心跟他離婚，她可能還沒(méi)有找到律師，就被她丈夫殺了。
