There are two reasons to make a trip to an airport. The first is to catch a plane and then second is to meet someone. In both cases, the most important thing is to be on time. It's much better to be early than late.
If you are meeting someone you don't know, say if your boss has asked you to meet a customer, take a medium sized white sign, with the guests name written in large letters. Stand near to the exit so that your guest will see your sign quickly.

Jeff: Did you have to meet someone there?
Joan: I was picking up my sister who has been away for 5 years.
Jeff: You must have been very excited to see her?
Joan: I was but before she even said hello to me, she rushed outside to light a cigarette!
Jeff: Well because you cannot smoke on flights these days, I kinda understand how she must have felt.
Joan: Yeah - I understood too, but she should have said hello to me first.
Jeff: Did you drive out to the airport or catch a taxi?
